Baikal is one of the oldest lakes on Earth, the scientists date its age about 25 mln. years. The Baikal's water basin contains about 23 thousand km of water. The lake is the largest reserve of fresh water on the globe. The warmest place on lake Baikal is Peschanaya Bay, and the most sunlit spot is Olkhon Island.
The origin of the name "Baikal" is unknown, but the most widely used and accepted version is one that says that this is a word of turk origin and contains two words: "bai" - rich, and "kul'" - lake, so the full meaning is a "rich

There are many reasons to visit the lake and experience the way of life over here. The usual activities of adventure tourism like trekking, biking, kayaking, fishing or jeep-safaris are all the more memorable if they are carried out at this magic lake.
