Sergiev Posad. The town and monastery of the 14th century named after the famous saint Sergiy Radonezhskiy has become a kind of Russian Vatican. The Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Laura (the Greek word “laura” means monastery) houses a seminary, a museum of history, and guards many famous icons, monuments of antiquity and a huge library of religious literature. A whole-day excursion to Sergiev Posad features a tour round the town, Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Laura, the Laura treasury Riznitsa, and lunch in the restaurant Risky Dvorik, Russian style. Women should cover their heads when they enter the cathedrals and churches.
