Places of Interest along the way

Kolatselskie Caves

Under Peter the Great, the Tulmozerskiy iron manufacturing factory used to be located here. Its ruins remain. Opposite the village, on the other bank of the Kolás river, are caves, from where ore was taken for the factory’s construction site. As a result, the land around the former factory is pierced with caves and underground passages.

Orus’yarvi

According to legend, around 800 years ago a monastery of Orus’yarvi was situated on the site of the present modern country church. Russian believers say that Orus’yarvi is the most sacred place along the entire Finnish coast. St. Nicolas is its saint patron.

Village of Salmi

Visit to the destroyed church of St. Nicolas, built in 1824 – 1826 by the Finnish architect K.L.Engel

Varashev Stone

A border between Sweden and Russia was established in 1617 by the Stolbovsky Peace Treaty. Its water frontier was indicated by a landmark called “Varashev Stone”, which is currently a unique historical monument. The two-meter high stone of pink granite is clearly visible from the shore as well as from the waters of the lake Ladoga.

“White Bridges” Waterfall

“White Bridges” is one of the highest waterfalls in Karelia. The sight is breathtaking – two waterfalls about 19 ì high are hidden from the visitors’ eyes in the rocky canyon.

“Tolvoyarvi” Land Reserve

This area’s unique landscape was formed by a glacier. The itinerary route lies along the ancient roads surrounded by picturesque lakes and pine trees.
